Whether you’re an underwater photographer hoping to get close to the marine life or someone who simply wants longer, quieter dives, the PADI Semi-Closed Rebreather course is for you.
You can dive nearly bubble-free after you learn to use your semi-closed rebreather and prepare yourself to move up to an Aquanauts closed-circuit rebreather course. Best of all, Aquanauts has the rebreather for you to use. You don’t need to bring your own!
Through the Semiclosed Rebreather Specialty course you learn the special procedures for semiclosed rebreather scuba diving. This includes special dive planning, organization, procedures and potential hazards, many of which differ significantly from conventional (open circuit) scuba.
It specifically focuses on the features, accessories, maintenance and proper use of the Draeger Semi-closed Rebreather. You make at least one confined water dive and at least three open water dives to learn:
- Advantages and disadvantages of the rebreather
- Assembly, disassembly and maintenance
- Dive planning and emergency procedures with semiclosed rebreathers
Prerequisites
-

Aquanauts Course Director and technical director Roger Smith shows student Rob how to use his Drager semi-closed rebreather.

- PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
- Minimum age: 15 years old
How long will it take?
- Recommended Course Hours: 24
- Minimum Open Water Training: three dives over a recommended two days
Where can I go from here?
While not a technical diving certification, the Semi-Closed Rebreather course is a great introduction into the world of Tec. You can use rebreathers in decompression diving, cave and cavern exploration, technical wreck courses or even, with a full CCR unit, on trimix.
